Entity audit

An entity audit is a crawl of a brand's own website, read the way an AI engine reads it, that reports what stops the engine from resolving one clear company, its people and its offerings.

Before an AI engine can cite a business with confidence, it has to work out which pages, name variants and people describe the same real organisation. It does this largely by reading the business's own site.

An entity audit makes that read visible. It crawls the site, builds a map of the entities it finds, such as the company, its founders, its services and its social profiles, and reports where the picture breaks down.

Typical findings include a weak sameAs set, an ambiguous name, or visible questions with no matching markup. Fixes are usually structured data and wording changes on specific pages.

An entity audit is different from a technical site audit. A site audit asks whether AI crawlers can read the site at all. An entity audit asks whether what they read describes one clear company.

Example

What it looks like in practice.

A consultancy shares its name with an unrelated software firm. An entity audit of its site finds no sameAs links to its own company profiles, so an engine has nothing to separate the two. Adding those links to the Organization markup is the fix.

How Zicy measures it.

Zicy's Entity Audit reads each page twice, raw and rendered, ranks findings Blocking, High or Medium, and gives each fix as markup to publish. See Entity Audit and Internal Linking.

FAQ

Questions about Entity audit.

What is an entity audit?

An entity audit is a crawl of a brand's own website, read the way an AI engine reads it, that reports what stops the engine from resolving one clear company, its people and its offerings.

How is an entity audit different from a site audit?

A site audit checks whether AI crawlers can read a website: bot access, llms.txt, schema, sitemap and speed. An entity audit checks whether what they read describes one clear company.

Does an entity audit change my website?

No. It reports problems and gives you markup to publish. Someone still has to add it to the site.
