There is a moment in every B2B purchase that most marketing teams never see. A procurement engineer, a compliance officer, or a technical buyer asks an AI assistant to explain a standard, compare an option, or name who does this properly, before an RFQ, a vendor shortlist, or a single phone call.
This client operates in the certified offshore container space, where compliance language is the buying criteria. Strong engineering, real certifications, genuine category expertise. And almost no presence in the AI answers where that expertise was being asked about.
In certification-driven industries, being left out of an AI answer does not just cost a sale. It costs technical legitimacy. Buyers were not asking AI for recommendations. They were asking it to validate standards: DNV 2.7-1, EN 12079, load testing, certification scope.
What we did
We treated this as four separate problems, not one.
- Prompt-level visibility mapping. We mapped 140+ high-intent prompts a real buyer actually asks, decision-stage, specification-heavy, compliance-led, rather than generic keywords.
- Certification-focused entity strengthening. We made the brand unambiguously legible to machines on the standards it actually owns, with pages structured so an AI can extract a clean, quotable, citable answer.
- Share of voice expansion. We tracked competitor density inside certification clusters and reinforced the prompts where rivals were gaining ground, before they consolidated.
- Citation consistency. We worked the formatting, structure, and source authority until the brand's own site became the thing AI links to, not just the thing it paraphrases.

The results
Across five AI platforms:
- Brand mention coverage: 67.4% (184 of 273 responses), up 41.3% on the prior period
- Website citation coverage: 65.57%, up 22.3%
- Share of voice: 23.73% (931 of 3,712 total brand mentions), up 57.7%
- Average AI ranking: #2.64

By platform:
- Google AI Overviews: 93.9%
- Perplexity: 92.9%
- Google AI Mode: 91.1%
- Gemini: 44.6%
- ChatGPT: 17.9%
At topic level, the brand registered as a Brand Leader across 419 topics, with 70 to 87% coverage in its core certification territory: 72% on DNV 2.7-1 / EN 12079, 87% on DNV 2.7-1 / ISO 10855.

The takeaway
The engines do not think alike. They weight different sources, trust different signals, and reward different structures. This brand is near-dominant in Google's ecosystem and still building in ChatGPT's, and that gap is quantified, not vague. A named gap with a known size, on the platform with the largest assistant user base, is not a weakness in the report. It is next quarter's roadmap.
AI visibility is a measurable position, not a vibe. It can be known, tracked, attacked, defended, and lost, the same way market share can.
